Margarita
Lee, Chair, opened up the meeting/annual luncheon at 1:00 p.m. We conducted our
traditional member introductions, and Gabriel Macias, from the City of San Fernando,
was welcomed/thanked as having driven the furthest as a new potential member to
attend our gathering.
As
this was our annual holiday/meeting get-together, we enjoyed the luncheon food
items brought by several members for all to enjoy. This serves as a great opportunity
for us to establish and renew friendships with our peers, exchange ideas, request
guidance with a difficult matter, and to share contracts with one another. It
also serves to benefit you and your agency in being a LAMPPAC participating member.
Christopher
P. Klein officially served notice that he was stepping-down as our LAMPPAC Treasurer
effective immediately. He has served in this capacity since the original inception
of this organization. He is thanked for his service.
Kathleen
Hodge noted that her school district is moving ahead with their plan to utilize
3M "green" janitorial cleaning products with a contract thru Grainger's. She noted
she may invite 3M to provide our group with a presentation at a future meeting.
Additionally, her school district also has a 'cooperative' contract that other
agencies may want to consider utilizing for:
 | Fitness
equipment (treadmills/bicycles) |
 | Athletic
mats |
Margarita
Lee reminded us that there will be no LAMPPAC meetings for January '08 nor for
July '08. In addition, our future meetings will revert back to the 'usual' 2:00
p.m. start time.
Cynthia
Duprey reminded us that she is still looking for a qualified and interested company
to refurbish wood park bleachers. Marc Monforte indicated that he 'may' have a
source for her to utilize.
Tracy
Hamilton spoke briefly about 'The Great Park' construction in Irvine. She also
informed us that her Senior Buyer, Carolyn McIntosh, has resigned, and is moving
out-of-state. Tracy will be recruiting quite soon to refill this much needed position.
At
this meeting the new officers for the LAMPPAC board were made official:
 | Treasurer Gwen
Eng, City of Manhattan Beach |
 | Vice
Chair J. Richard Hogate, City of El Segundo |
Thank
you to both for donating time to further the LAMPPAC organization efforts.
Bill
Gellman brought four newspaper articles to share with members that he felt offered
valuable/useful information to relate:
 | "Volkswagen,
Honda Top Resale List" |
| | o | Car
buyers looking for models with the best resale value would be wise to pick a Volkswagen
or a Honda, according to a survey by Kelly Blue Book. |
 | "E-Waste
Fuels Toxic Trade" |
| | o | Estimates
are that 50 to 80 percent of the 300,000-400,000 tons of electronics collected
each for recycling in the U.S. ends up over seas. |
 | "Rising
Global Demand for Oil Triggers New Energy Crisis" |
| | o | Prices
have been rising steadily as demand for gasoline grows in developing countries,
as hundreds of millions of Chinese and Indians climb out of poverty and as other
developing economies grow at a sizzling pace. |
 | "Gradually
'Greener' Home Construction" |
| | o | New
homes in many areas are being built to environmental 'green' standards. Developers
say 'green' building adds a little bit to construction costs - - estimated at
$2,500 per unit. |
Special
thanks to various members and retiree for the tasty food, desserts, donated drinks,
candy and door prizes. The camaraderie was enjoyed by all attending.
The
next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. Hope to
see you all there.
